Story Time

Story Time is a free community program for visitors to the Clark Bonsai Museum. Held among living bonsai, each session blends storytelling with lessons inspired by nature, Japanese culture, and the art of bonsai. Gathered in a space that nurtures patience, curiosity, and imagination, children and families are invited to slow down, listen deeply, and connect with the natural world.

Meditation with the Ancient Bonsai is a guided mindfulness session focused on breath awareness. Suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators, this practice offers a restorative pause in a peaceful garden setting.

Make Your Own Bonsai

First Saturday of Every Month at 10:00 AM
Clark Bonsai Garden at Shinzen Japanese Garden (Woodward Park, Fresno)

Join us for a hands-on bonsai experience at the Clark Bonsai Garden inside Shinzen Friendship Garden.

In this interactive class, participants will learn the fundamentals of bonsai design and care while creating their own bonsai tree to take home. You’ll receive clear, simple instructions on proper bonsai care — along with the foundational knowledge needed to create another bonsai in the future.

All tools and materials are provided.

Classes are taught by members of the Clark Bonsai Museum’s Curatorial Team.

Artist Studio Series: Advanced Training Course

Course Instructor – Julian Tsai

This Bonsai Training Program is designed to develop a very specific and focused set of skills in a select group of participants.  Using Bonsai assets of the Clark Bonsai Museum, the Program will cover foundational knowledge and advanced understanding essential for correctly assessing general health, branch structure, and foliage status of deciduous and Juniper Bonsai. Participants will be presented with the opportunity to learn proper horticultural support, development and refinement techniques to maintain health and aesthetic status of established Bonsai. By the end of the course, participants will confidently manage branch structure and refine foliage on both deciduous and Juniper bonsai.
